By nature, Marplan is used to treat short-term depression in patients who do not respond to any form of treatments or drugs.
At times, it can also be used for some other disorders but of course as prescribed by a certain doctor.
Likewise, if in the event you have already tried various forms of medication for your disorder but haven’t experienced any relief at all, then perhaps Marplan is for you.
When Marplan is NOT for You
If Marplan can be prescribed for you, there are also some cases or conditions when Marplan can’t be prescribed for you just like for an instance when you:
- Are allergic to any Marplan ingredient or component
- Have heart or brain blood vessel disease or problems, and high blood pressure
- Have liver problems, severe kidney problems, an adrenal gland tumor or schizophrenia
- Are fond of eating cheese or other foods with a high tyramine content, or likewise loves caffeine or alcohol
- Are taking an anorexiant, antihypertensive, apraclonidine, bupropion, buspirone, carbamazepine, cyclobenzaprine, dextromethorphan, ethanol, levodopa, meperidine, methotrimeprazine, methylphenidate, nefazodone, propoxyphene, SSRIs (like fluoxetine), SNRIs, tetracyclic antidepressants (like trazodone), MAO inhibitors or tryptophan as unforeseen toxicity may take place.
Considering the Side Effects
There are also some possible side effects that go along with using Marplan. You likely have to consider all of them to help you in a way ascertain if Marplan is for you or not.
Some of the possible side effects may actually include:
- Severe allergic reactions like rash, hives and the like
- Agitation
- Sweating
- Vomiting
- Frequent urination
- Heavy feeling
- Chest pain
- Cold with wet or clammy skin
- Sleeping problems
- Fast or irregular heartbeat
- Impotence
- Tightness in throat or even in the chest area
- Impulsive behavior or other behavior changes
- Panic attacks
- Severe headache
- Increased blood pressure
- Irritability
- Widening pupils
- Serious nervousness or anxiety
- Restlessness
- Some suicidal thoughts or at times behaviors
- Yellowing of the eyes or skin
